About Nahor | āύāĻžāĻšā§°
The Advanced Online Assamese Dictionary
Nahor began as a solo development project. The application was built to address a specific gap in existing online Assamese dictionary platforms, which frequently lack modern search layouts, responsive interface designs, and advanced conceptual routing capabilities.
The core database of Nahor currently contains over 20,000 definitions. To build this initial dataset, data was gathered from various foundational linguistic resources, including words and definitions from Xobdo.org. During the compilation process, multiple errors, typographical issues, and incorrect parts of speech present in older open-source data were identified. These entries have been systematically corrected within the Nahor database, and this verification process remains ongoing.
In addition to the curated base dataset, a significant portion of the current words, definitions, parts of speech classifications, and contextual example sentences have been researched, verified, and added manually to ensure high grammatical precision.
Objectives of Nahor
- Promote correct Assamese words, standardized Assamese grammar, appropriate contextual uses, and accurate English translations worldwide through the internet.
- Support students, language learners, everyday writers, and general Assamese speakers by serving as a highly accessible and structurally accurate reference hub.
- Fix and refine legacy digital dictionary data errors to provide a dependable, verified platform for modern users.
- Maintain an advanced, intuitive, and fast web application interface that makes looking up definitions clean and straightforward across both mobile and desktop screens.
Community Collaboration
Because a language database requires continuous expansion, community participation is highly encouraged. Anyone who speaks, studies, or values the Assamese language can contribute to this project. Users can submit new vocabulary words, suggest corrections for existing definitions, or provide feedback to improve the system.
